Quality Engineer

Reports To:                           Quality Manager

A leading international precision components manufacturer with 20 plants in 9 countries delivering annual turnover in excess of £400m per annum.  This innovative business has a significant investment plan currently in roll out.  An outstanding reputation for quality enables the company to boast an enviable list of blue chip clients.


Job Purpose
:

To offer timely and effective support to manufacturing to ensure robust products / processes / systems and effective communication with all customers, suppliers and internal colleagues on quality related issues.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure total customer satisfaction by resolving external and internal customer concerns promptly.
  2. To control and coordinate customer quality approval submissions (PPAP/PSW/AAR etc)
  3. Identify root cause and instigate permanent corrective actions for day-to-day and new model launch activities.  
  4. Ensure full compliance with internal and external (eg TS 16949) quality standards, Environmental, Health & Safety legislation and departmental procedures.
  5. Responsibility for making informed decisions regarding line stoppages due to quality problems
  6. Assist in the training of quality awareness, working with operational supervisory and management teams.
  7. Ensure control plans APQP and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained.
  8. Contribute to continuous improvement activity (use of six sigma for example) within the business.
  9. Prepare PPAP and submit, including production of sample parts.
  10. Maintain measurement equipment including Gage R&R studies
  11. Monitor and analyse process capability including data collection

Key Challenges:

To improve company quality standards by urgently acting on customer concerns, thorough root cause problem solving 8D, and proper documentation to avoid recurrence.

  2. Adherence to systems and procedures via audit activities
  3. CCAR’s/ Global 8d activity and timely closure
  4. Process Capability Status
  5. Quality control plan development and delivery FEMA
  6. Quality Costs

Objectives:

Zero non-conformities to quality procedures

Background:

Ideally degree-qualified but minimum HNC level engineering (or equivalent), with at least 3 years experience within a quality environment, ideally an automotive manufacturing base. IT skills, the ability to work on own initiative and thrive under pressure are essential.

 

Job Content:

 The Quality Engineer must have the ability to do the following:

  • Liaise with and co-ordinate the contribution from employees from other departments and external bodies
  • Develop a good rapport with all levels of staff
  • Prioritise workload
  • Read and interpret drawings
  • Have a team-orientated approach
  • Have problem solving skills at all times the job holder must be aware of the current levels of any measurables within their area.
  • Be the overall process owner of individual customer issues

Salary £30,000 to £35,000 pa

Hours 8am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday
