Job Description - EXPIRED

Mechanical Engineer – Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Drivetrains

I have an exciting opportunity for a mechanical engineer with experience in an automotive or other vehicle drivetrain transmission design and development. As there is a rapid change in automotive drivetrains becoming more electrified, my client is seeking for experienced professional that would help meet their development deadlines.

My client is a market-leader in technology development for the design and simulation of rotating machinery with offices all over the world. My client is working with and developing world’s leading software for gearbox and drivetrain engineering.

Responsibilities will include contributing to projects in:

  • Drivetrain design
  • Drivetrain design review & optimisation
  • Drivetrain development troubleshooting (e.g. durability, vibration, efficiency failures)
  • Delivering technical work
  • Concept design development
  • Gearbox component and housing design
  • CAD work in CATIA, and guiding others in design work
  • Use of CAE
  • Creating drawings of prototype transmissions
  • Liaising with manufacturers and test houses to deal with non-conformances and development issues
  • Specification of clutches, synchronizers
  • Specification of hydraulic and electric shifting mechanisms
  • Developing PDS documents and test requirements
  • Discussions with customers in meetings and web-meetings
  • Supporting sales teams to understand customer needs
  • Writing proposals for project work
  • Project delivery

Successful candidate needs to have:

  • A good understanding of the development process for transmissions or similar complex mechanical components
  • Either an in-depth knowledge of the use of simulation technology such as FE analysis, CAE, gear design software, or a good appreciation of how such tools are used in the design process.
  • A sound knowledge of manufacturing for mechanical components such that you can create drawings of transmission components and liaise with manufacturers
  • High level qualifications (typically degree) in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related subject
  • 3+ years experience in a related area
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in developing skills in analysis and other CAE tools
  • A willingness to be ‘hands-on’ when necessary.
  • The role is based in Nottingham, UK. Occasional international travel is necessary.
